The year was 2007. Arctic sea ice reached a new summer minimum (for the very brief time since man has been monitoring Arctic sea ice). It was a golden opportunity for propagandizing. That was the year that National Geographic (
one of the worst CAGW propaganda rags on the planet) teamed up with Seth Borenstein (
the Baghdad Bob of the CAGW cult) to suggest that there could be no summertime Arctic sea ice as soon as 2012.
Unfortunately (for the hysteria mongers), the trend since 2007
has shown MORE summertime Arctic sea ice, NOT less.
