San Fran Chronicle Didn't Get Hurricane Memo?

Repeat a lie often enough, it becomes accepted as fact.

It appears as though the San Francisco Chronicle did not get the hurricane memo (or the tropical forest memo).

As the first link documents, it appears as though a presentation given by University of Miami geologist Shimon Wdowinski has been grossly misrepresented by the various climate activist bloggers involved in the long chain of very dubious citations.

Hurricane Data vs. the Hysteria Mongers

Once upon a time, Global Warming Hurricane Hysteria was so central to the alarmist theme that it was the iconic image chosen to promote the Al Gore/James Hansen propaganda film “An Inconvenient Truth”.

As is documented in a prior post, nobody with even a shred of credibility still promotes global warming hurricane hysteria. The charts below further substantiate that point.

Where Are Al Gore's Hurricanes?

Quoting The National Center for Policy Analysis:

“Global tropical cyclone activity (comprised of hurricanes and tropical storms) continues to remain at its lowest level in at least 30 years, according to data from Florida State University. For nearly two years now, global tropical cyclone activity has remained at its lowest level since at least 1979.

According to Florida State hurricane researcher Ryan Maue, it is possible that current accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) is even lower than the extremely low tropical cyclone activity of 1979-1980.”

HurricaneGate - The Great IPCC Meltdown Continues

“More trouble looms for the IPCC. The body may need to revise statements made in its Fourth Assessment Report on hurricanes and global warming. A statistical analysis of the raw data shows that the claims that global hurricane activity has increased cannot be supported.”

2) Most costly - 1926, SE Florida/Alabama
(after adjusting for Inflation, Population and Wealth Normalization)
3) Most intense - 1935, FL Keys
4) Decade with most hurricane strikes (Continental US) - 1941-1950
5) Decade with most major hurricane strikes (Continental US) - 1941-1950

But, we agree on the relationship between climate change and hurricanes -- which is, after all, the focus of this particular post.
