Democrats allow drilling ban to lapse

“ Democrats have decided to allow a quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire next week, conceding defeat in a month-long battle with the White House and Republicans set off by $4 a gallon gasoline prices this summer.”

The WRONG Energy Bill!

Quoting NRO:

“Unfortunately, what’s being sold as a bipartisan, ‘best-of-all-worlds’ energy compromise — the so-called ‘Gang-of-10’ (now, ‘Gang-of-16’) bill in the Senate — deserves ridicule, not celebration.”

“People who believe that the government should make all decisions about what kind of energy is produced, how that energy is used, and how much energy is consumed will of course be thrilled with a bill like this (unless, of course, their favorite fuel is left without a large and expansive spot at the federal trough). People who doubt the government’s ability to run whole industrial sectors, on the other hand, should be horrified at this advertised ‘New Era’ energy bill.”

We can and must do better than this!

This bill does not go nearly far enough in opening areas where energy production is currently not allowed. The “domestic only” clause is utterly counterproductive. And, ALL of the $84 BILLION in subsidies needs to be eliminated! If you need just one of many reasons why, click here.

Dims Reject Offshore Drilling

“ A congressional subcommittee struck down an important bill, which could have opened up reserves [in the Outer Continental Shelf] worth billions of barrels of oil and trillions of cubic feet of natural gas, on Wednesday [6/11/08].”

It was a purely partisan vote with Dims, once again, blocking access to our own tremendous domestic energy resources.

The mean estimate for our Outer Continental Shelf alone is 86 Billion Barrels of oil. That is FOUR TIMES our current proven reserves and it is more than the entire proven reserves of 14 of the 20 countries listed on the following chart:



As long as Congressional Dims refuse to allow access to our own domestic resources, prices at the pump will remain artificially high. It is economics 101, supply and demand.
