Smile, You're on Candid Scanner

Remember Allen Funt and his show Candid Camera?
Well, Allen’s son Peter has something to say about the TSA.

Quoting Peter Funt:
“I've never worked for the TSA. But once I spent a day putting airline passengers through what they believed was a full-body scanner…

I claimed that the metal detector wasn't working properly, and instructed passengers to lie down on the conveyor belt so they could ride through the [fake] X-ray machine along with their bags…

All but one passenger, a middle-aged man, willingly laid on the conveyor belt, belly down, and was transported through the box without protest…

I'm glad to see that many travelers are no longer simply submitting blindly to airport scanners, and are questioning invasive pat-downs. That's actually something worth smiling about.”

Is the TSA more dangerous than al Qaeda?

Quoting The Hill:
“The recent public ire toward the TSA’s new pat-down and body imaging screening methods is likely to cause more people to drive automobiles and forego airline travel…

the probable spike in road travel, caused by adverse feelings towards the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) new screening procedures, could also lead to more car-related deaths.”

About 40,000 Americans die on the highways each year (the numbers dropped during the recession of 2008/2009). Compared to the total US deaths in eight years of Operation Iraqi Freedom, about ten times as many Americans die in a single average year of highway fatalities. Compared to the 9/11 attacks, fourteen times as many Americans die in an average year on the highways.

Some suggest the TSA has already been responsible for an extra 1,200 deaths a year since 2001. That would amount to about 11,000 deaths and counting from TSA terror!

The death toll will rise over this holiday season. But, laughable ineffectiveness notwithstanding, the TSA Goon-in-Chief remains as defiant as ever.

The Nanny State always comes with unintended consequences.

TSA pat-down leaves traveler covered in urine

Just when you thought TSA hell could not get any worse…

Quoting MSNBC:
“A retired special education teacher on his way to a wedding in Orlando, Fla., said he was left humiliated, crying and covered with his own urine after an enhanced pat-down by TSA officers recently at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.”

The United States of Don't Touch my Junk

Quoting Benjamin Franklin:
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Of course, in this case, test after test after test confirms we actually get from the TSA “neither liberty nor safety”. It’s a joke -- a really, really, really sick, sad, pathetic politically correct joke. So, according to Franklin, we the sheeple got what we deserve (until now). Now, the TSA has finally crossed the line (and, we’re fighting back).

Don't Touch my Junk

Quoting Charles Krauthammer
at The Washington Post:

The Price of Resisting Sexual Assault by Government - $11,000

Quoting SignOnSanDiego.com:
“The Transportation Security Administration has opened an investigation targeting John Tyner, the Oceanside man who left Lindbergh Field under duress on Saturday morning after refusing to undertake a full body scan…

Michael J. Aguilar, chief of the TSA office in San Diego, called a news conference at the airport Monday afternoon to announce the probe. He said the investigation could lead to prosecution and civil penalties of up to $11,000.”

TSA Reading Material

Quoting Moonbattery
(I inserted the link):
“Just because we're forbidden from showing a sense of humor while we're being pawed and groped by these folks doesn't mean they don't have any themselves. Whoever came up with the gag that federal bureauweenies can keep us safer than the airlines themselves must be a laugh a minute. But I'm forgetting: the point isn't security, it's creating union jobs for government employees.”

Even WaPo Knows Napolitano's System is Broken

Quoting The Washington Post
(emphasis mine):
“THE THWARTED Christmas Day airplane bombing raises three causes for alarm. First, it illustrates a screening system that remains porous enough to let a suspect board with the same explosive shoe-bomber Richard Reid attempted to use in 2001. Second, it exposes a terrorism bureaucracy too clumsy to catapult the suspect, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, at least to a higher level of preflight scrutiny after his father came forward with warnings that he might pose a danger. Third, if it is true that the suspect received explosives training from al-Qaeda in Yemen, the incident underscores the emergence of that troubled nation as a training ground for terrorists. To that initial list, we would add a fourth: the disturbingly defensive reaction of the Obama administration.”

[Uh, WaPo, HELLO…
When has the Obama administration ever shown anything OTHER than arrogance, ignorance, incompetence, corruption, tyranny, dishonesty and defensiveness?]

“it is hardly reassuring to argue, as Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano did on ABC's ‘This Week,’ that ‘once the incident occurred, the system worked.’ The attack was averted because of the luck of a faulty detonator and the quick response of alert passengers. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the president has ordered a review into ‘did the government do everything that it could have with the information that they had?’ The answer to that question seems obvious.

[Duh…
Kudos to WaPo for this editorial.]

Napolitano Fails (Again) at Damage Control

Yesterday, Napolitano lit up the blogs with her boneheaded assertion that the system worked.

This morning, Napolitano was on every single cable news channel whining about how she was “taken out of context” (by the AP via the NYT).

Well, dear readers, click here to examine yesterday’s transcript with commentary and click here to watch the video clip (relevant section begins at 0:23). Then decide for yourself.

In one sense, Napolitano was clearly referring to “the [entire] system”, right down to this guy. In another sense, she can argue she was only referring to “the system” of “making sure that we respond properly, correctly and effectively” once the terrorist is already on the plane and executing his plan. Gee, not much comfort in THAT -- especially since we MERELY GOT LUCKY on this one!

Remember…
AFTER his own father informed our government that his son might be a terrorist, our Federal bureaucrats failed to so much as flag this guy for secondary airport screening! Given that breath-taking FAILURE, how boneheaded must Napolitano be to assert -- without qualification -- that “the system worked” (even if she thought she was qualifying her assertion)?

Also today, Napolitano effectively suggested that the bureaucracy failed to so much as flag this guy for secondary airport screening because there was no check box on the bureaucratic list reading “Father told us his son might be a terrorist”. Napolitano also implied that the “fix” would be to revise the checklist (rather than revise the decision making process). So, when another terrorist slips through the cracks because it was the uncle (rather than the father) who ratted out the terrorist, I suppose we’ll revise the checklist again - eh, Janet?

Get used to it! This is the EXACT same sort of decision making process we’ll see once the Dims tyrannically impose ObamaCare on an unwilling majority!

Napolitano - DHS/TSA System Worked

Quoting the AP (via the NYT):
“Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says investigators did not have enough information to keep a terror suspect from boarding a flight bound for Detroit and that the system worked as it should have.”
