Global Warming Cultists Propagandizing Tonight in Steamboat

Quoting our local Socialist rag:
“[Tom] Easley will appear at 7 p.m. today at Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library in conjunction with Transition Steamboat to present the talk about climate change in our area…

Specifically, Easley said tonight’s talk will concern the water cycle. He said U.S. Forest Service data show a trend of winter shortening by about two weeks from 20 to 30 years ago.”

Global Warming - At the bottom of the last barrel

Gallup’s most recent poll found environmental issues dead last among voter concerns.

Wait, it gets better…
Gallup’s most recent poll shows Global Warming dead last among environmental concerns.

So, when searching the dregs of the kegs…
Global Warming is at the very bottom of the very last barrel (exactly where it belongs).

Questions:

1) Can somebody tell King Obama to stop wasting millions of our tax dollars on purely political fraudsters like Michael Mann?

2) Can somebody reign in the utterly unaccountable and phenomenally tyrannical EPA bureaucrats?

3) Can we PLEASE not waste $45 TRILLION pretending we can micromanage climate change?

Germany Goes Batshit Crazy Over Nuclear Nonsense

You knew it would happen…

So far, not one fatality has been caused by the nuclear incident in Japan. To the best of my knowledge, they’ve only had two radiological injuries -- burned legs.

But, we’ve already seen the political ramifications of the astonishing media malpractice in whipping up anti-nuclear hysteria. Germans have gone absolutely, positively, batshit crazy in response to this media malfeasance.

Quoting Reuters:
“Japan's nuclear disaster helped lift Germany's anti-nuclear Greens off the opposition benches and into the seat of power of the country's richest state on Sunday with an unprecedented surge of popularity.

In a stunning victory, the Greens ousted Chancellor Angela Merkel's party in the industrial state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, which the conservatives have ruled for 58 consecutive years. The Greens also beat their traditional allies, the Social Democrats.”

H/T to The Real Revo

Depression Unavoidable!

Quoting John Rubino via Monty Pelerin:
“The sad truth is that there’s no fix for the mess we’ve created — at least nothing on the menu of politically feasible options. The vast majority of the politicians and voters in the US, Europe and Japan don’t yet understand what’s coming….

And even if we did wake up today, the damage is already done. The US total debt (federal, state, local, consumer, business) now comes to nearly $800,000 per family of four. And that’s not counting a similar amount for unfunded Medicare benefits and who knows how much in derivatives liabilities. So a painless fix is no longer possible. Our choices have narrowed to only two: a crash that will dwarf the Great Depression or a hyperinflation that wipes out a whole generation’s savings…

Today’s debate over federal spending and taxes is just so much fantasy. We’re like a family arguing about redoing the kitchen while the house burns down. It’s an irrelevant, annoying discussion. The interesting debate will take place after the collapse, when we have to decide what kind of society to rebuild from the rubble. Then we can argue for limited government and individual rights and sound money and all the rest. Politics will be interesting again!”
Click the image & read the rest:

Nobody has ever summarized my views more accurately.

The unfortunate truth is that:

1) All of human civilization is way beyond the fiscal tipping point of no return.

Our current debt to GDP ratio is not the issue -- that number was higher right after World War II. To compare our present condition to that era, one would have to imagine that -- in 1944 -- Congress passed legislation mandating that World War II (and the associated spending) would never end! The spending, corruption and fraud associated with The Age of Entitlement (worldwide) is analogous to that.

2) The vast majority of global citizens will remain willfully ignorant of these facts until the inevitable collapse (and, then, they will blame anybody and everybody other than their own willful ignorance and their own gluttonous appetite for endless entitlements).

Be prepared!

A belated nod to Human Achievement Hour

Quoting The Competitive Enterprise Institute:
“On March 26, some people will be sitting in the dark to express their ‘vote’ for action on global climate change. Instead, you can join CEI and the thousands of people around the world who will be celebrating Human Achievement Hour (HAH). Leave your lights on to express your appreciation for the inventions and innovations that make today the best time to be alive and the recognition that future solutions require individual freedom not government coercion.”

Joe Biden - Obama committed an impeachable offense

This 2007 interview revolved around speculation that President Bush might attack Iran without Congressional approval. Bush, of course, did not attack Iran. Bush did get Congressional approval to attack Iraq and to attack Afghanistan.

In the interview, Biden defends his prior assertion that PRECISELY what King Obama just did is “an impeachable offense”.

King Obama neither sought nor received Congressional approval to attack Libya. So, either Biden believes that Obama has committed an impeachable offense or Biden has no integrity what-so-ever.

Hey! Joe!

We Pay a Stiff Premium for Nuclear Fear

Quoting Bill Frezza
at RealClearMarkets.com:
“In the case of nuclear energy, superstition, fear, and partisan politics carried the day after the Three Mile Island accident, shutting down the U.S. nuclear power industry for three decades. This despite the fact that more people died in Ted Kennedy's car. We have all been paying a stiff fear premium ever since…

It's as if the mystical power of the atom reduces us to gibbering primitives.

By all means let's learn from this and all past accidents to make sure nuclear power plants are as safe as we know how to build them. Let's insist on the highest construction standards and hold plant operators strictly accountable for any accidents. Libyans Use Journalists as Human Shields

Quoting Fox News:
“An attack on the compound of Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi on Sunday had to be curtailed because of journalists nearby, Fox News has learned.

British sources confirmed that seven Storm Shadow missiles were ready to be fired from a British aircraft, but the strikes had to be curtailed due to crews from CNN, Reuters and other organizations nearby. Officials from Libya's Ministry of Information brought those journalists to the area to show them damage from the initial attack and to effectively use them as human shields.”

Joe Biden knows King Obama violated the Constitution

Quoting CNS News
(emphasis mine):
“After studying the constitutional language governing the use of military force and the debates that the Framers had on the issue, Joe Biden determined that the Founding Fathers had vested the power to authorize even the limited use of military force in the Congress not the president---unless it was necessary for the president to act swiftly to repel an attack on the United States or to rescue U.S. citizens.

Biden derided the opposite position—that the president could use military force without congressional authorization—as a ‘monarchist’ view of presidential power.

That was in 1998, however, when Biden was in the Senate.

Today, Biden serves as vice president to a commander in chief who has just committed the U.S. military to an action in Libya that was authorized by the U.N. Security Council but was never even so much as debated in the U.S. Congress let alone put to a vote.”

King Obama Takes on Libya

3/21/11 Update:
Click here for more thoughts from DiploMad

Before going to war with Iraq, President Bush sought and received Congressional authorization to do so -- ditto for Afghanistan. Before going to war with Libya, Obama did not even consult with Congress, much less seek (or receive) their approval.

Quoting The DiploMad
(a long time US Foreign Service Officer):
“Does Obama consult with the US Congress? Bush did that, remember? Does he ask Congress for an expression of support for the use of military power? Bush, did that, and we still hear from the left that he got insufficient authorization. No. Obama and Clinton get permission from the UN, the EU, and the Arab League instead. I guess when you're a liberal, that's all that counts. No need to bother with the Congress or in making a case to the American people.

So, now we are in a war with no clear objective: Is it to establish a ‘No Fly Zone,’ or get Qaddafi out? What if we get a NFZ, which our military will establish quickly, but Qaddafi doesn't go or continues his war without aircraft? What then? Are we on the hook to protect Libyans from Libyans? How long before the pictures of dead and dying Libyans, supposedly killed by our missiles and bombs, have the UN, the Euros, and the Arab League backing out? Guess who will get left holding the bag of sand?”

From an evolutionary standpoint, radiological hormesis makes perfect sense. Life evolved on this planet being constantly exposed to all manner of low-level background radiation. It’s even in the bananas eaten by both our ancestors and ourselves! It stands to reason that those evolutionary adaptations which caused individuals to BENEFIT from low-level background radiation would be more likely to survive the process of natural selection.

Let me break this down for the hopelessly ignorant hippie-dippie nature worshipping crowd -- low level radiation is a GIFT from Gaia!

Radioactive Fallout Reaches California! Panic NOW!

Quoting The Associated Press
(emphasis mine):
“Radioactive fallout from Japan's crippled nuclear plant has reached Southern California…

Initial readings are ‘about a billion times beneath levels that would be health threatening,’ the diplomat told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because the CTBTO does not make its findings public…

The diplomat's comments backed up expectations by IAEA officials and independent experts that radiation levels -- which are relatively low outside of the immediate vicinity of the Japanese plant -- would dissipate so strongly by the time it reached the U.S. coastline that it would pose no health risk whatsoever to residents.”

Spent Fuel Rods at Plant Pose Big Risk?

The Wall Street Journal has published what amounts to a new wrinkle on the Japanese nuclear incident -- a wrinkle not seen in previous nuclear power plant incidents. I’m referring to the (apparently ill-conceived) storage of spent fuel rods.

First, let me note that:

1) A UCLA study has quantified the fact that -- other than the WSJ opinion page -- the WSJ is even MORE biased to the Left than the New York Times.

2) Proving the above point, a primary source for this story -- the Union of Concerned Scientists -- is more concerned with politics than science and is about as Far Left as they get. The Associated Press also had a hand in this and they are extremely biased to the Left.

All I am saying is take this reporting with a grain of salt (preferably NOT Potassium Iodide). Just like Three Mile Island and just like Chernobyl, it will take DECADES to quantify the scientific facts regarding this Japanese incident.

Click here to put both Three Mile Island and Chernobyl into proper perspective. My guess -- at this moment -- is that this Japanese incident may turn out to have been somewhat worse than Three Mile Island (where NOBODY was killed, injured or harmed in ANY way) and considerably less harmful than Chernobyl (where 30 people died).

The Nuclear Catastrophe of a Dental X-Ray

Quoting William Tucker
at The Wall Street Journal
(I inserted the links):
“Even while thousands of people are reported dead or missing, whole neighborhoods lie in ruins, and gas and oil fires rage out of control, press coverage of the Japanese earthquake has quickly settled on the troubles at two [now four] nuclear reactors as the center of the catastrophe….

There was a small release of radioactive steam at Three Mile Island in 1979, and there have also been a few releases at Fukushima Daiichi. These produce radiation at about the level of one dental X-ray in the immediate vicinity and quickly dissipate…

Researchers have spent 30 years trying to find health effects from the steam releases at Three Mile Island and have come up with nothing.”

Click here and put Chernobyl in perspective.

Every so-called “journalist” on the planet is shamelessly exploiting this equivalent of a dental X-Ray solely for the sake of the ratings race. Some are even exploiting the ratings race in a shameless attempt at political gain. ALL of this amounts to utterly despicable media malpractice!

Chernobyl produced a grand total of 30 deaths. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data for 2009, that is the equivalent of LESS THAN 8 hours of carnage on our national highway system. If we allowed our wildest fantasies to run wild and imagined that the current mess produced FOUR Chernobyls, that would amount to LESS THAN two days of carnage on our national highway system. Of course, if you read the primary citation in this post, you know why that relatively innocuous outcome is not even remotely possible.

Dims Abandoning Berwick Nomination

Quoting Avik Roy
at National Review Online:
“Last year, in a highly irregular maneuver, President Obama took advantage of a brief Senate recess to appoint Donald Berwick as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a.k.a. CMS, which controls a budget larger than that of the Defense Department. This avoided a public Senate hearing, where Berwick’s controversial views would have been further explored. (I never tire of quoting Berwick’s eloquent opposition to the ‘darkness of private enterprise.’)

A few weeks back, I discussed the re-nomination of Berwick to the post. Now comes word, via Brett Coughlin of Politico, that Senate Democrats ‘have given up on confirming Don Berwick as CMS administrator’…

President Obama’s appointment of Don Berwick served a useful purpose: It highlighted both Obama’s true views about health policy, and the broader goals that underlie Obamacare. I doubt Berwick’s departure will have much effect on what Obama’s CMS actually strives to achieve.”
