The monstrous bureaucracies in Washington D.C. (and every state capital, every county seat and every city hall) will take us down sure as shit.

Western Civilization -- it was nice while it lasted. We fell to the entitlement mentality. We did it to ourselves. We can only blame ourselves (well, those of us who fell under the spell of the siren song of the middle class welfare state).

Fail to hire the unemployed and get sued

From the White House to the Congress, Dims seem to be on a mission to make sure nobody ever hires anybody ever again.

The latest proposals from Congressional Dims give the unemployed the right to sue if they believe a potential employer failed to hire them based upon their status as being currently unemployed.

If this is passed into law, it will ONLY serve to make every potential employer think twice about even bothering to consider hiring anybody. Only the truly desperate -- those willing to hire anybody with a heartbeat -- will bother to interview anybody.

Both bills are nothing but yet another payoff to the trial lawyers -- the biggest donors (by FAR) to the Democrats.

What the WaPo article cited below will not tell you is that the House bill was introduced by Democrat Rosa L.DeLauro and the Senate bill was introduced by Democrat Richard Blumenthal -- both representing Connecticut.

Quoting The Washington Post:

“the House and the Senate recently proposed near-identical versions of the Fair Employment Opportunity Act of 2011 to prohibit discrimination based on a job applicant’s unemployment status.

Despite ostensibly good intentions, Congress’s proposal has raised eyebrows for affording remarkably expansive rights and protections to job applicants and employees that go above and beyond any federal or state law or proposed law to date. If passed, the potential for substantial government intrusion in the private sector’s hiring process looms large, with several negative consequences for the workplace likely to follow.”

Rare Earth Elements Spell Doom for Green Fantasies

Green fantasy products such as CFL Bulbs, wind turbines and electric cars all depend upon an extremely limited supply of rare earth elements -- 95% of which are mined exclusively in China.

The great irony is that the only thing LESS “sustainable” than these Green fantasy products is the Entitlement Mentality (both of which are central to the mythology of the so-called “Progressive” religious cult).

In August of 2009, The Telegraph warned us the Chinese were planning to shutoff the supply of these rare earth elements. The same report noted that:

“Each Toyota Prius uses 25 pounds of rare earth elements.”

Yesterday, The New York Times reported that:

“By closing or nationalizing dozens of the producers of rare earth metals — which are used in energy-efficient bulbs and many other green-energy products — China is temporarily shutting down most of the industry and crimping the global supply of the vital resources…

General Electric, facing complaints in the United States about rising prices for its compact fluorescent bulbs, recently noted in a statement that if the rate of inflation over the last 12 months on the rare earth element europium oxide had been applied to a $2 cup of coffee, that coffee would now cost $24.55.

A pack of three 11-watt G.E. compact fluorescent bulbs — each the lighting equivalent of a 40-watt incandescent bulb — was priced on Thursday at $15.88 on Wal-Mart’s Web site for pickup in a Nashville, Ark., store. The average price for fluorescent bulbs has risen 37 percent this year, according to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association.”

Steve Milloy suggests (I inserted the link):

“If you haven’t already said your morning curses, don’t forget to condemn the 110th [Democrat controlled] Congress for passing the incandescent bulb ban, George W. Bush for signing it, and the the 111th [Democrat controlled] and 112th [divided] Congresses and Barack Obama for failing to reverse the ban.”

Nice work, Dims! You’ve made a bad recession MUCH worse. In the process, you’ve racked up unprecedented debt. You’ve robbed us blind with your crony capitalism and your Chicago style gangster government.

Now, through force of law, you’ve put the price of lighting our homes out of reach!

The Gore Effect - Arctic Sea Ice Soars

The Gore Effect strikes again!

The day before Al’s summertime propaganda fest, we saw a blizzard on Pike’s Peak which required the roads to be plowed.

But, the real kicker came during the snooze fest itself. During Al’s 24 hour hissy fit (9/14/11 through 9/15/11), Arctic sea ice (normally melting this time of year) expanded by 45,000 sq. Kilometers (click here to download the numeric data). Steve Goddard did some math and concluded that this amounted to “16 city blocks of new ice forming every second”.

The Gore-a-thon Wrapup

In case you missed it, Al Gore (remember him?) just wrapped up a 24 hour long hissy fit wherein he desperately tried to prove to himself that he is really not the laughing stock of the entire world -- well, okay, the entire world outside of his fellow carbon spewing, jet-setting celebrity pinheads in Aspen.

If Gore were still even remotely in touch with (climate) reality, he would have realized that he was setting himself up for the mother of all mockings. I mean, Mother Nature herself seems to be on a perpetual mission to mock these clowns. So, satirizing the buffoons was sorta like shooting fish in a barrel (only easier).

Easy though the task may have been, a cartoonist named Josh over at WattsUpWithThat did a brilliant job of skewering the Gore-a-thon. Josh watched this painfully predictable torture fest so we would not have to and live-blogged a very entertaining satire hour by wretched hour.

Has fired Yahoo CEO cost herself $10 Million?

“Fired former Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz could lose $10 million for violating a non-disparagement clause when she raged that the company's board members 'f***ed me over.'

Miss Bartz, in an interview with Fortune after her Tuesday firing by phone, also said the board was 'trying to show that they're not the doofuses that they are.'

However, according to Fortune, her contract with Yahoo contained a clause barring her from criticizing the internet company.”

If the woman is so so ill-disciplined that she would (very likely) cost herself $10 million for the sake of a little emotional satisfaction, what does that say about her capacity to lead anybody or anything?

Ms. Bartz has a history of indulging in this sort of obscene emotional outburst.

Sounds to me like she should have never been hired in the first place. So, maybe the board really is full of “doofuses”. But, is there any question that Carol is the far bigger “doofus”? You decide.

For my part, I won’t be buying stock in Yahoo anytime soon.

When Congress (foolishly) increased the debt ceiling, we knew that was nothing but a green light for the Dims “to embezzle” ANOTHER $2 TRILLION from the American people.

Sure enough…
A little over one month later, Obama has announced that the Dims are ready to introduce ANOTHER failed “stimulus” program costing $447 Billion MORE.

As the White House freely admits, the bill has not even been introduced. Yet, the Associated Press (usually eager to pimp for any Dim agenda) has gleaned enough from Obama’s speech to (correctly) deduce that Obama’s promise to pay for this new spending spree without increasing the debt is nothing but a “sleight-of-hand” -- a sleight-of-hand which is typical of the most dishonest President EVER.

I suppose this latest “sleight-of-hand” is why the Dims (following Obama’s lead) are already on a media tour urging Congress to pass this new stimulus bill “right this minute” (before it is even introduced):

“pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it”

By Obama’s own metrics, it only made matters WORSE!
Even the NYT admits this will be no different!

Obama Hopes GOP Rejects his 'Jobs' Bill

As predicted, Obama’s big speech offered us nothing but more of his same failed policies - higher taxes (but only on his political enemies - those who create jobs), more class warfare (by offering more tax credits to his political allies - those who pay no income tax), more unemployment “benefits” (aka welfare checks) and $447 BILLION more in utterly counter-productive government “stimulus” spending (aka bribes paid to public sector unions, paid for by “sleight-of-hand”).

The two token bones tossed to employers (a temporary, partial payroll tax rebate & a $4,000 reward for hiring the long term unemployed) is just a quick sugar fix which even The New York Times admits will do nothing to inspire anybody to hire more workers. If Obama had any clue at all how to create jobs he would have -- just as a baby step -- suggested that we repeal ObamaCare, prevent the EPA from regulating CO2 and require the Department of the Interior to allow more drilling (given our VAST hydrocarbon resources).

But, the media are entirely missing the strategy behind the speech…
The hidden agenda inside Obama’s so-called “Jobs” bill is that he is counting on the House Republicans to (properly) reject it - that’s Obama’s only hope to win a second term.

Both Obama AND the New York Times know offering more of his same failed policies will never turn the economy around - it will only continue to make matters worse and further reduce his odds of a second term. But, if Obama were to reverse course (for the good of the nation), he would lose his base and he would lose the election. So -- being more interested in reelection than the good of the nation -- Obama has thrown a big steaming pile of red meat to his base. Obama knows full well more of the same failed “stimulus” does not stand a snowball’s chance in hell of ever getting passed into law. And, that is exactly what Obama is cynically counting on.

Obama’s “Hail Mary” election strategy is to swear that “more of the same” would have worked if only those evil Republicans would have given it a chance.

At least 40% of voters will swallow that lie hook, line and sinker. We can only hope that at least a slim majority of voters are smarter than that. Time will tell.

Does anybody have any doubt what Obama’s great “new” “plan” is for creating jobs?

Thursday night, Obama will tell us all what we already know - he plans to spend more money we ain’t got on more government “stimulus” programs that didn’t work for FDR, didn’t work for Obama, never have worked and never will work.

So, why will Obama fall back on the same old Keynesian failures? Because Dims live in a fantasy world where facts, evidence, data and reason have no relevance and ideology trumps all.
