I suppose my candidate is ABO (Anybody But Obama).
What I really want to see (and never will) is the American people rejecting the Welfare State (starting with Medicare, Medicaid and Social [in]Security).
I hate to admit it, but I actually have no hope for the future. We're going down. It's now just a question of how much longer we can postpone the inevitable collapse. I give it 3 to 20 years.
We will be the last pillar of Western Civilization to collapse. Greece (ironically) will be the first. But, none of the Europeans will ever suffer the full consequence of their follies. They will -- to one degree or another -- get bailed out.
By the time we collapse, only the Chinese would be capable of bailing us out (and they won't). So, we'll be the last pillar to fall and we will fall the hardest. We will be the only pillar of Western Civilization to suffer the full consequence of our Entitlement follies.
Sorry... I wish I could be more optimistic. But, there's simply no basis for it.
I suppose after we collapse, the Europeans will finally suffer the full consequence of their Euro-Socialist follies. Still, that means their collapse will be more gradual. Our collapse will be very sudden and extremely hard.
Ya, I'd have to agree with you. I don't have much hope for the future either. We could remain the greatest nation on earth, but we'd have to reprioritize our positions. Totally embracing the global warming farce, and the baggage it brings (ie: taxes & regulations), would be the final nail in the coffin.
Saving this country (and all of Western Civilization) would be dirt simple -- if only we had the political will to do so.
The best first step would be to immediately and completely eliminate all entitlements at every level of government. Not only would that immediately balance every state, local and federal budget, we would all be better off and those who truly need assistance would be FAR better cared for (by private individuals and private charities).
Never gonna happen... Too many people are far too indoctrinated to believe in the benevolence of the welfare state.
