“The recent public ire toward the TSA’s new pat-down and body imaging screening methods is likely to cause more people to drive automobiles and forego airline travel…
the probable spike in road travel, caused by adverse feelings towards the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) new screening procedures, could also lead to more car-related deaths.”
About 40,000 Americans die on the highways each year (the numbers dropped during the recession of 2008/2009). Compared to the total US deaths in eight years of Operation Iraqi Freedom, about ten times as many Americans die in a single average year of highway fatalities. Compared to the 9/11 attacks, fourteen times as many Americans die in an average year on the highways.
Some suggest the TSA has already been responsible for “an extra 1,200 deaths a year since 2001”. That would amount to about 11,000 deaths and counting from TSA terror!
The death toll will rise over this holiday season. But, laughable ineffectiveness notwithstanding, the TSA Goon-in-Chief remains as defiant as ever.
The Nanny State always comes with unintended consequences.
