“An official briefed on the attack on a Detroit airliner says the U.S. has known for at least two years that the suspect in the attack could have terrorist ties…
[And yet…]
New York congressman Peter King says [suspected terrorist] Mutallab was not on the no-fly list.”

Wow! You mean 2 years ago, the Bush administration dropped the ball? Jeez! We probably ought to confirm the new head of the TSA and get rid of the feckless Bush administration holdover. Oh that's right! We can't! Because GOP Senator DeMint has put a hold on him. Thanks Republicans!
Ben,
1) It is a mistake to blame Obama, Bush, a Bush appointee or even Janet Napolitano for this failure (across the entire DHS). The failure lies with the paradigm of government bureaucracy and monopoly. That paradigm flaw is the reason why government is always the worst possible way to deliver any goods or any services.
Those who want government to play a larger and larger role in their lives are begging for their own demise.
2) That said, Obama’s nominee:
A) Has a history of abusing his power (and “forgetting” he did so).
B) Is apparently only interested in unionizing the TSA (a move which will purchase more Democratic votes while ensuring an even MORE incompetent and unaccountable workforce within the TSA).
That does not seem like an improvement to me.
