“Steamboat is currently reporting a remarkable 38-inch base at mid-mountain and 52-inch base at the summit, the largest base amounts ever seen for an opening day.”
Lots of locals have been hiking up to ski early.

Damn that CO2 :)
We'll be skiing up here in NH soon enough.
RICH - Enjoy!
We may not have the highest peaks, but they are still the White Mountains, home of the World's Worst Weather.
Unfortunately, the wind shuts down our lifts sometimes.
Live Free or Die.
RICH,
I have to say, I love your state motto.
We have our share of wicked wind around here too. In the last year we had two particularly nasty wind storms. I estimate each to have produced winds around 100 mph. There was a lot of damage around town.
In 1997, our area experienced a storm which blew down 13,000 acres of trees. This was the largest known forest blowdown ever recorded in the Rocky Mountain region.
Right here in Steamboat Springs, I have also been awakened by an earthquake. It was minor and did no damage. But, it still shook me out of my sleep.
Being self-employed, it is difficult for me to get time off. I worked on my wedding day.
One of my dreams is to go to Colorado and ski. How could I not? That picture alone says it all.
Perhaps when I retire?
