Further debunked the Lyme disease claims.
Our local so-called “newspaper” recently published a letter to the editor containing at least 7 major climate related myths (in addition to a bunch of other purely political nonsense).
Click on the text to debunk the myth:
1) The myth that anthropogenic CO2 will create catastrophic climate change.
It should be perfectly obvious by now that the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation has been (overwhelmingly) the primary driver of climate change over the last century.
2) The myth that global warming will spread tropical diseases.
The letter even cites alleged figures from the CDC suggesting that Global Warming caused Lyme disease to dramatically increase in 2009 vs. the period from 2000 to 2006. Just one problem -- according to the very heart of the Global Warming cabal, global temperatures were FLAT during this entire period and USA temperatures were dramatically DECREASING!
Click here and note that the CDC (in 2008) began to “include probable cases” in their statistics. The increase in confirmed cases since 1996 probably has more to do with better awareness and better reporting. Note also that confirmed cases dropped significantly in 2010.
Click here and see that Lyme disease is most prevalent in some of the coldest parts of our country. Lyme disease is very rare in the warmest parts of our country. Ticks thrive in humid locations. If you live near a big body of water, you’re at greater risk.
3) The myth that DDT “no longer is considered safe” (by rational people).
4) The myth that anthropogenic CO2 causes droughts.
Of course, in the same letter, they suggested that anthropogenic CO2 might also produce “torrential rains”. REALLY? Is there ANY evil in the entire universe which anthropogenic CO2 does NOT cause?
5) The red herring suggestion that “some oil now refined for domestic production will be diverted to the pipeline for export to more lucrative markets overseas.”
A) Oil is a global commodity. The fluctuations in the price we pay for gasoline is determined exclusively by the laws of supply and demand as primarily reflected in The World Oil Balance (which, in turn, can be affected by a variety of supply disruptions as well as surging demand). The simple truth is, the more oil that is placed on the global market, the LOWER the price we will pay at the pump.
B) Owing to environmental extremism, no new refineries have been built in the USA since 1976. So, lacking refining capacity, we HAVE to export our own oil, have it refined overseas and then IMPORT the refined gasoline. How STUPID is THAT?
6) The canard of the CIA studies (done at the request of Congressional Democrats) on climate change & national security.
First, perfectly natural climate change can create horrific disasters. Just imagine if we were living through Meltwater Pulse 1A. Or, imagine that we were living through the period when 1,000 feet of ice will (once again) sit on top of what is now New York City. Perfectly natural North African Climate Cycles could have security implications.
So, it is not unreasonable for the CIA to study the impacts which climate change might have upon national security. But, even the Leftists at NPR report these studies concluded that:
“efforts to reduce global warming by changing energy policies ‘may affect U.S. national security interests even more than the physical impacts of climate change itself.’”7) The lunacy from James Hansen cited in this letter is crazy enough to warrant a future post all its own.
