USA Today Touts my Hometown

Quoting USA Today:
“Steamboat Springs has cultivated an image as a ski bum paradise, where slopes meet the wooden sidewalks of the Old West…

Steamboat, which bears the trademarked name ‘Ski Town USA,’ has several things that set it apart from other Colorado ski towns. First, there's the snow, which is among the driest and deepest in the country”

A very pretty town.

Thomas,

Yep, the views around here are pretty spectacular.

This is the only place I have ever lived where taking the trash out and grocery shopping were both cosmic experiences (owing to the views associated with both activities).

The view when driving over Rabbit Ears pass and descending into town is breathtaking. It's even better when viewed from the seat of a descending bicycle after climbing to the top of the pass.

Of course, you have to keep an eye out for wildlife. Descending cyclists have been known to collide with bears, elk and deer (just to name a few).

There is one other notable great view of town for local Mountain bikers. But, if I went public with it, I would be tarred and feathered. We like to keep a few local treasures to ourselves. ;-)

To see wild bears, red foxes and more I need only look out my window at night.

It's about as close as I ever expect to get to heaven on earth.

But, it’s not for everybody. You have to be prepared to cope with occasional temperatures down to -40F (or lower).

As I read your response, I think that I know why I liked your writings from the first time that I checked out your blog. Anyway, I am a warm weather person although IJ grew up in areas of Arizona that were quite cold. I can make it in the cold and snow, but I prefer warm or hot. The picturesque beauty could draw me at least for a visit, though.
