“The poor, benighted little people. They just don't understand what a wonderful hopey-changey world Pres. Obama is offering them . . .
Andrea Mitchell has suggested that the problem Pres. Obama is facing in selling his health care plan to Americans who already have coverage is that people ‘may not know what's good for them.’ ”
“Mitchell made her condescending comment on today's Morning Joe.”
“U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter said Monday he intends to introduce a resolution in Congress calling on President Obama to apologize for saying Boston-area police officers ‘acted stupidly’ in arresting a black Harvard professor, despite not knowing all of the facts and acknowledging the suspect is a friend.”
“Are you dissatisfied with the state of health care in America today?”
“The surge in global temperatures since 1977 can be attributed to a 1976 climate shift in the Pacific Ocean that made warming El Nino conditions more likely than they were over the previous 30 years and cooling La Nina conditions less likely…
We have shown that internal global climate-system variability accounts for at least 80% of the observed global climate variation over the past half-century.”
“Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Today marks the first time his overall approval rating has ever fallen below 50% among Likely Voters nationwide. Fifty-one percent (51%) disapprove.”
“one of the world's leading experts on polar bears has been told to stay away from this week's meeting [of the Polar Bear Specialist Group], specifically because his views on global warming do not accord with those of the rest of the group…
[Dr. Mitchell Taylor reports that of] the 19 different bear populations, almost all are increasing or at optimum levels, only two have for local reasons modestly declined…
Dr Taylor was told that his views running ‘counter to human-induced climate change are extremely unhelpful [to the political agenda]’ ”
“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
“Media and the public generally believe the IPCC is making predictions and that is clearly the assumption for government policies. Sadly, members of the IPCC do nothing to dissuade the public from that view. All previous ‘projections’ were wrong. The most recent example is the period from 2000 to 2008. IPCC predicted warming but temperatures went down while CO2 increased. Finally, the IPCC AR4 itself explains why IPCC model projections fail.
‘Models continue to have significant limitations, such as in their representation of clouds, which lead to uncertainties in the magnitude and timing, as well as regional details, of predicted climate change.’ (AR4, Chapter 8. p.600)
It is hard to imagine a better example of Beadle’s axiom paraphrased as follows, ‘Half the work done by the IPCC is to make things appear what they are not.’ ”
“Congress's chief budget analyst delivered a devastating assessment yesterday of the health-care proposals drafted by congressional Democrats…
Douglas Elmendorf, director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, said bills crafted by House leaders and the Senate health committee do not propose ‘the sort of fundamental changes’ necessary to rein in the skyrocketing cost of government health programs, particularly Medicare. On the contrary, Elmendorf said, the measures would pile on an expensive new program to cover the uninsured.
Though President Obama and Democratic leaders have repeatedly pledged to alter the soaring trajectory -- or cost curve -- of federal health spending, the proposals so far would not meet that goal, Elmendorf said, noting, ‘The curve is being raised.’ His remarks suggested that rather than averting a looming fiscal crisis, the measures could make the nation's bleak budget outlook even worse.”
“It is now asked whether Sonia Sotomayor has empathy for Frank Ricci.
It's a question larger than the first Latina nominated to the Supreme Court, larger than the first black president who selected her and larger than the case before the high court of a firefighter who did not get a promotion because he was white and male…
In an odd twist of fate, the first Latina nominee now finds herself cast not as the discriminated but the discriminator.”
“CO2 is not the underlying physical principle [behind global temperature variations] but there’s another problem. They only consider annual temperatures, but even a simple division into summer and winter shows a different pattern. Generally all the warming from 1680 to the 1990s was in winter temperatures. Figure 5 is a plot of winter temperatures for the last 17 years in the US.”
“President Barack Obama on Saturday dismissed the idea the nation might need a second stimulus to jolt the economy out of recession and urged Americans to be patient with his economic recovery plan.”
“U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today introduced legislation that would save taxpayers $12.5 million this year and millions more in the future by prohibiting the United States from contributing to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is fraught with waste and is engaged in dubious science.
‘We all know that the UN is incompetent when it comes to spending money, and that is why American taxpayers should not be forking over millions more to one of its organizations that not only is in need of significant reform but is engaged in dubious scientific quests,’ Luetkemeyer said. ‘Folks in Missouri and across the country are tired of this never ending government spending spree, and my goal is to deliver some of our people’s hard-earned money back into their pocketbooks instead of spending it on international junk science.’
Luetkemeyer’s legislation would prohibit U.S. contributions to the IPCC, which is nothing more than a group of U.N. bureaucrats that supports man-made claims on global warming that many scientists disagree with.”
“Imagine how wonderful the world would be if man-made global warming were just a figment of Al Gore’s imagination. No more ugly wind farms to darken our sunlit uplands. No more whopping electricity bills, artificially inflated by EU-imposed carbon taxes. No longer any need to treat each warm, sunny day as though it were some terrible harbinger of ecological doom. And definitely no need for the $7.4 trillion cap and trade (carbon-trading) bill — the largest tax in American history — which President Obama and his cohorts are so assiduously trying to impose on the US economy.
Imagine no more, for your fairy godmother is here. His name is Ian Plimer, Professor of Mining Geology at Adelaide University, and he has recently published the landmark book Heaven And Earth, which is going to change forever the way we think about climate change.”
“President Obama and other leaders backed historic new targets for tackling global warming last night in an agreement designed to pave the way for a world deal in the autumn.
For the first time, America and the other seven richest economies agreed to the goal of keeping the world’s average temperature from rising more than 2C (3.6F).”
“The sudden collapse of honeybee colonies around the world, a condition identified in 2004, is most likely caused by the parasite Nosema ceranae, not the human causes alleged by environmental activist groups…
Of course, after the activists' media allies sounded the alarm that pesticides and global warming are killing frogs and bees, they became strangely silent about reporting the exculpatory evidence that natural factors are to blame, says Burnett. The general public has no idea that humans in fact were not to blame, unless they subscribe to and read academic journals.”
“Unable to defend the EPA's actions [the silencing of 38-year EPA veteran, Senior Operations Research Analyst Alan Carlin], the climate-change crew -- , led by anonymous EPA officials -- is doing what it does best: trashing Mr. Carlin as a ‘denier.’ He is, we are told, ‘only’ an economist (he in fact holds a degree in physics from CalTech). It wasn't his ‘job’ to look at this issue (he in fact works in an office tasked with ‘informing important policy decisions with sound economics and other sciences.’) His study was full of sham science. (The majority of it in fact references peer-reviewed studies.) Where's Mr. Hansen [who falsely alleged the Bush administration suppressed his pure propaganda] and his defense of scientific freedom when you really need him?
Mr. Carlin is instead an explanation for why the science debate is little reported in this country. The professional penalty for offering a contrary view to elites like Al Gore is a smear campaign. The global-warming crowd likes to deride skeptics as the equivalent of the Catholic Church refusing to accept the Copernican theory. The irony is that, today, it is those who dare critique the new religion of human-induced climate change who face the Inquisition.”
“Fifty-six percent (56%) of Americans say they are not willing to pay more in taxes and utility costs to generate cleaner energy and fight global warming... 21% of Americans are willing to pay $100 more per year for cleaner energy and to counter global warming. Only 14% are willing to pay more than that amount.”
